General information
The
heat-shrink materials are obtained
by cross-linking of polyethylene with chemical or radiation method. The
shape of a product is formed at high temperatures and then solidified
by cooling it to a room temperature. The product highly increases its
cross dimensions during this process. By heating the product to
temperature 120÷200 °C during assembling we cause
its form to be melted and, owing its “shape
memory”, it will attempt to return to its original shape,
thus significantly decreasing its cross dimensions and tightly closing
the object placed previously into it. This ensures electrical
insulation, anticorrosion protection, improves aesthetics. The
cross-linked polyethylene is highly resistant to stress corrosion,
solvents, acid and base solutions, salts, petrol and oils. Certain
products are covered inside with a glue that
additionally increases their tightness and pressure resistance. They
are used for insulating of terminals, joints, clamps, holders,
bus-bars, wire bundle connecting and protection of various elements in
electrical and electronic engineering as well as machinery. The
longitudinal dimensions of the heat-shrink products increase (e.g.
joints) or decrease (e.g. sleeves), which has been defined in the
description of the individual groups of the products.
Shrinking directions
Shrinking
should be carried out using
an electric or gas heater (preferably with temperature control) or,
taking precautions, by means of a burner with yellow flame so that the
heating temperature is 120÷200 °C. The object to be
shrunk must be previously cleaned with abrasive paper, degreased and
then heated-up to approx. 60 °C. After
slipping over the shrinkable element must be heated up beginning from
the half of length, evenly and around, gradually moving the heater to
the element ends and avoiding local overheating. Correct
shrinkage
has
no folds,
bulges,
burns.

Heat-shrink insulating tubes
type: RIS
Application:
As the insulation of busbars
in switchboards. The RIS tubes enable to decrease the distances between
phase busbars – and at the same the
switchboard overall dimensions, protect from corrosion, help to avoid
accidental short-circuits, increase personnel work safety

Heat-shrink closures PLT
Application:
Sealing single cable cores, branches and joints in power engineering
and telecommunication.
Structure:
The closures are made of cross linked polyethylene. The
inner surface is covered witha hot-melt glue.
The outer surface is covered with dots of a green dye which changes its
colour into black when a suitable
shrinking temperature is reached. The locking rail is made of a spring
stainless steel.
Working
temperature:
-55÷+120 °C.
Shrinking
temperature:
>120
°C.
Dielectric
strength:
>10 kV/mm.

- For straight joints we recommend terminals
acc. to DIN: KDR, KRM (for Cu cores – Item No. 340-125...;
340-126...) and KRA, KDA (for Al cores – Item No. 350-125...;
350-100...).
Note!
The joints with new
symbols JE are equivalent to those with old ZRM symbols, as shown in

0,6/1 kV heat-shrink
terminations types: TE-4
Application:
Connecting low voltage cables of polymeric
insulation to power devices or overhead power lines. The terminations
are offered as sets
containing: pieces of thickened heat-shrink tubes with hot-melt glue
(RPK type), heat-shrink breakouts (PT type) and auxilliary
materials (CHC-1 cleaning tissues, TO insulating tapes, abrasive
cloth), packed in polyethylene bags. The terminations are manufactured
of the
same materials as JE cable joints (technical opinion nr IEn
EWP-444/2005).

Note!
We
recommend the following cable lugs for
the terminations:
- For Cu
cores: KDR (DIN-compatible), KRM
(longitudinally sealed).
- For Al
cores: KDA (DIN-compatible), KRA
(longitudinally sealed).
Cleaning tissues typ CHC-1
Application:
To remove dirt, especially grease,
from cable insulation and coating as well as from inner surfaces of
cable lugs and connectors. It results in decreasing transient
resistance between cable cores and lugs or connectors as well as better
adhesion between cable insulation and heat-shrink tubes. The tissues
are the standard accesories of 0,6/1kV
heat-shrink cable joints offered by Ergom.
